This was our first contest, the one that started it all. After a few months of cooking at home on our Weber Smoky Mountains Paul suggested we try out hand at competing. There was a local contest in Rhode Island, so we thought we would give it a shot. (It was also the last contest in RI for six years, so I guess it was good timing that we caught it.)
We tried to prepare by reading books, making checklists, cooking 'que, and doing a full competition style run through. We had high expectations, but soon learned just how good pro competition teams are. It was, however, a lot of fun and we would return.
